Feature: These 5 watches are fit for royalty. We can prove it
Whether you’re a royalist or not, there’s one thing you probably have in common with the British royal family and that’s their penchant for luxury watches. From members who are clearly avid collectors to those who are a little more sentimental, there’s a wide range of timepieces in this family’s collection. So, let’s have a rummage, shall we?
The Queen: Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars
Queen Elizabeth II’s watch collection is understandably pretty extensive. In it, you’ll find a few Jaeger-LeCoultre pieces (including a Calibre 101 model she wore at her coronation), a couple of Patek Philippe, watches a Vacheron Constantin, an Omega Ladymatic and a Jules Audemars from AP itself. Now that is a collection most of us can only dream of—with appearances from all of the top three watchmakers in the world—and it’s certainly one fit for a queen.
Prince Charles: Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
The next in line to the throne, Prince Charles, also has a wide watch collection all his own. We’re talking a few Patek Philippes, a Cartier Santos, a Parmigiani, plus a special Hamilton RAF Pilot’s watch that he got while training to be a jet pilot. A Jaeger-LeCoultre is also something that’s graced the prince’s wrist and, of course, it’s the classic Reverso—it seems good taste runs in the family.
Princess Diana: Cartier Tank Francaise
She was renowned for her effortless style from her clothes to her haircut, even her watches. One of Lady Di’s most-loved models, though? Her Cartier Francaise. A classic everyday piece, its understated yet glamorous charm appeals to many—including none other than Diana’s daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry: Rolex Explorer II
Considering he was once a part of the Apache helicopter regiment, it’s no surprise that Prince Harry mostly wears two watches both geared up for action and adventure. These two watches are the Rolex Explorer II and Breitling’s Aerospace Advantage, both special editions gifted to members of the Apache helicopter regiment to enable them to do their job with ease.
Prince Michael of Kent: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
Prince Michael is the Queen’s cousin and probably the least mainstream member of the family on this list. However, take one glimpse at him and you’ll probably agree he is one of the most stylish individuals within the family. Michael wears a slick two-tone Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, plus, he recently partnered with independent watchmaker Backes & Strauss where he revealed his own limited-edition line with the brand.
